Back in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 era, I was determined to find the safest, cleanest way to transport my passengers — not only for their peace of mind but for my own. After much research and effort, I became one of the first drivers on Maui to install a custom-designed floor-to-ceiling Plexiglas partition in my taxi.

This divider sat right behind the front seats, creating a clear separation between the driver and passenger area. I invested over $600 in this setup, including a built-in slot for cash or credit cards to pass through, allowing for fully contactless payment. I also stocked sanitizer on both sides of the divider and ensured that the van, outfitted with easy-to-clean leather seats, was thoroughly wiped down between each ride.

At that time, I also adjusted my service practices — limiting the front passenger seat, assisting only when needed with personal items, and wearing a mask to protect everyone onboard. Most of my business shifted to reservations, often prepaid using credit cards, PayPal, or Venmo, making rides even smoother and safer.

While today, thankfully, we’ve moved beyond many of those strict COVID protocols, I’m proud to look back on how quickly and thoughtfully I adapted to keep my passengers safe. My commitment to clean, reliable, and friendly service remains as strong as ever.
